Explore EMT: The Brand Behind Precision Audio Reproduction

EMT (Elektro-Mess-Technik) is a historic German manufacturer founded in 1940 by Wilhelm Franz. The company became internationally known for its professional broadcast turntables and phono cartridges used in radio studios around the world.

Classic EMT machines such as the EMT 927 and EMT 930 established a reputation for exceptional reliability, speed stability, and precise groove tracking in demanding professional environments. Alongside these turntables, EMT developed a range of moving-coil cartridges, including the well-known TSD series, which became a reference in broadcast playback.

Today EMT continues to manufacture analogue equipment in Europe, including the EMT 928 precision turntable, EMT tonearms, the EMT 128 phono stage, and a range of moving-coil cartridges. These components reflect the company’s long-standing focus on mechanical precision, stability, and faithful analogue reproduction.

Why Walden Represents EMT

EMT represents one of the most authentic traditions in analogue playback. Its turntables, tonearms, phono stages, and cartridges combine professional broadcast heritage with modern precision engineering, making them a compelling choice for vinyl systems that prioritize reliability, dynamics, and musical realism.

MANUFACTURY

EMT Tontechnik is a division of HiFiction AG, located in Turbenthal, Switzerland. We produce the EMT cartridges and the famous Thales tonearms and turntables. We are settled in a former spinning mill which was built in 1833 and has been carefully refurbished. Turbenthal is close to Zurich Airport and Winterthur.

ENGINEERING

We use modern engineering tools for traditional products.

COIL WINDING

Winding coils is finest craftmanship (2x 80 windings on 2x2mm)

CARTRIDGE ASSEMBLING

Assembling cartridges requires high level of concentration.

WORKSPACE

Bright working environment ensures high quality.

QUALITY CONTROL

Each cartridge is adjusted and documented individually, using modern measuerment equipment.

MACHINING

Some of the most precise parts are machined in house.

SURFACE

All mechanical surface treatment is done in house.

LISTENING

Nothing can replace real listening experience for development and manufacturing processes.

HISTORY

A small EMT museum shows 80 years history of the brand. Check out EMT’s history in more detail.
